1. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Bello Matawalle, winner of Zamfara State governorship election. INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, made this known during a press conference monitored by DAILY POST in Abuja on Saturday. According to Yakubu, PDP won in all elective positions in the state.
2. President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, have been given up till May 28 to submit their end of tenure asset declaration forms to the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB. Governors and other public officers will also keep to the same date. Chief Press Officer of the CCB, Charity Utok, in a statement, said the deadline became necessary as their tenure (first or second) in office ends on May 29
3. The Governor of Zamfara state, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar has described the judgement of the Supreme Court on Zamfara APC candidates’ tussle as ‘Allah’s will. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communication, Mallam Ibrahim Dosara, Yari said the party and its supporters in the state “have done everything possible to ensure APC did not lose Zamfara state but as Allah wanted, the party lost the state.”
4. Oodua Progressive Union (OPU) Financial Secretary, Hon. Rilwan Alowonle, is dead. Report has it that Alowonle died on Friday in Nigeria while preparing to go back to his base abroad. The deceased, who was a professional in engineering and environmental industries, was a graduate of Capella University, Minneapolis in US.
5. MTN Nigeria Communications Plc on Saturday said that it was being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over listing of its shares on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). A statement posted on the exchange website and signed by MTN Nigeria Communications, Company Secretary, Uto Ukpanah confirmed the investigation. The statement said that the company received a letter on May 23, from EFCC requesting information and documentation relating to the listing of its shares on the NSE.
6. Police in Anambra State has arrested a serving Nigerian soldier and three others in military uniforms for allegedly kidnapping a young man in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area. The soldier, L/Cpl Ojiegbe Obinna according to the Police is serving at 101 Special Forces Battalion, Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, Borno State. He and other two, Obasi Peter and Benjamin Nicholas were said to have abducted one Uchenna Ezeonu of Omeke village, Ekwulobia and whisked him away to an unknown destination.
7. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Saturday congratulated Zamfara State Governor-elect, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, all federal and State legislators-elect, as well as people of Zamfara State over the recent Supreme court verdict in favour of the party. It also said the apex court judgment was a triumph of the will of the people over manipulative forces. PDP spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan said this in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja.
8. The Governor-elect of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha has accused officials of the Governor Rochas Okorocha’s government of an attempts to blackmail him. The chairman of the Governor-elect’s inauguration planning and handover committee, Chris Okewulonu said this at a press conference on Saturday in Owerri. According to him, the outgoing governor, Rochas Okorocha and his officials have not assisted the committee towards ensuring a seamless inauguration ceremony of Ihedioha. He noted that rather there have been deliberate attempts by some hirelings of the state government to blackmail the incoming governor with baseless and spurious assertions.
9. An Owerri High Court has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to issue Governor Rochas Okorocha, the certificate of return for Imo West senatorial election. The suit with NO HOW/596/2019 was filed by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senatorial candidate for Imo West, Hon Jones Onyeriri against the INEC. The presiding Judge, Justice E.F. Njemanze, ordered that the status quo be maintained until the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice. The matter was adjourned to June 5, 2019 for hearing.
10. The Majority Leader of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has told President Muhammadu Buhari, that the National Assembly will not become his “rubber stamp” if he is elected Senate President. Lawan stated this while speaking to journalists in Abuja on Saturday. The lawmaker admitted that although he is a fan of Buhari, his support for the president, will not jeopardise the upper legislative chamber under his leadership
